musings

networked slot machines are the next big gambling "thing;" imagine the take on machines offering cable tv, internet access, episodic play, etc......

when will the us REALLY start upgrading our ancient electricity grid?

did you know that, according to forbes magazine, four soccer franchises are worth
over a billion dollars each? the top value goes to MAN U, at 1.8 billion...

why do many people assume that an ARM means that the monthly payment goes up and down with the interest rate? isn't necessarily so - the lender could simply extend the period of the loan...

instead of simply forclosing on untold thousands of homes, why don't lenders hire teams of renegotiators to keep people in their homes with stretched-out terms?

here's a thought: could it be that in inaugural years we discover that democratic presidents are phonies and never really meant most of what they said in the populist, anti-capitalism campaigns. they could never get re-elected if they really delivered on their campaign promises (disclosure: i hate politics; i deeply mistrust ALL politicians; i find it ridiculous to box oneself in with an official party affiliation)

is everyone afraid of china? why the fear that china will suddenly stop buying our treasuries? the fact is, that without export growth and the foreign investment it brings, china's economy would be in serious trouble - not good news for a communist government that's not nearly as "in control" as it might look from the outside...
